THE SHORT STORY

Electronics make much of our world go, but we usually don't get to see or understand the most basic ideas they rely on. Explore the analog electronics (how it was done before 0s and 1s) that power one of the most popular timers around (the 555). Understand what it means to be Turing complete (and why your Arduino cares), and open up some black-box electronics chips to see what's inside!  Date TBA.

THE LONG STORY

If you're mystified by the electronics that surround us, dissecting how microcontrollers—the miniature computers inside most electronics—actually work can be a good place to start.

These workshops—run by the co-founders of olopede, an educational electrical engineering firm—will explore some of the fundamentals of electronics. You'll take a closer look at ideas like computability (figuring out whether a computer can solve a given problem) and unpack how the ubiquitous 555 timer works, using that as a jumping off point for looking at signal generators and voltage controlled oscillators up close and personal.

People with any and all backgrounds are welcome! Feel free to contact Josh with any questions about the course. Financial support (including sliding scale and work trade options) is available; drop Alec a line if you'd like to hear more about them.
